Most Expensive Banana: Expensive Banana in Japan Costs $6 ??

A Japanese company has developed and begun selling a banana with an edible skin, dubbed the Mongee (pronounced “mon-gay”).
The secret to the edible skin comes from growing the banana trees in a minus 75 degrees Fahrenheit (-59 degrees Celsius) environment, then is thawed and replanted. It means the fruit grows rapidly and leaves the skin with a “lettuce” like texture.

D&T states on its website that the peel is an excellent source of vitamin B6, magnesium and tryptophan, which are precursors to serotonin. OK, but how does it taste?
According to RocketNews24 reporters, who tried the product, it turned out to have “a little taste” to the skin. But the flesh itself has a stronger tropical flavor, almost “like a pineapple”.

There’s also another caveat: You’ll have to wait until the bananas are fully ripe, which in Mongee’s case means the peel should have small brown dots on it.
Oh and one more thing, they are quite expensive and rare. A banana costs about $5.75, and the only store stocking it, Tenmanya Okayama, receives 10 Mongee shipments per week.
So it’s okay if you don’t mind being skinned.
